Such features of quartz as wide range optical transmission and high melting temperature are important for the lighting engineering industry. Commonly in the lighting engineering quartz is used in the form of quartz tubes. Nominally four main quartz application types can be separated for lighting equipment:
- transparent vitreous silica for high-temperature devices (mercuric, halogenous);
- transparent vitreous silica tubes with titanium dioxide additions (medical bactericidal lamps);
- transparent vitreous silica tubes with cerium additions, disabling ultraviolet radiation;
- synthetic ultrapure silica tubes which applied as constructive elements of medical, chemical equipment and semiconductor devices.
